I live in Boulder! Ahh.... that feels
nice! I love it here. The air is clean,
the sunshine is abundant, the mountains
are gorgeous, and the people are intelligent,
and all seem to be up to something.
So What Am I Doing?
Well, in short, three things (not necessarily
in this or any order):
- The House
- The Career
- The Kids
The House
We moved back into the same house we'd
been living in before we left for Prague.
We'd just been renting it out the whole
time, and the lease was up just about
the time we wanted to move back to Boulder,
so that worked. We seriously considered
buying another house in Boulder, moving
into that, and keeping the old house
as a rental, but a little house shopping
in Boulder quickly disabused us of entertaining
that notion. The property prices
here are just stupid, and the financial
sacrifice we'd have to make just too
great. So, back into the old place.
Now, have you ever moved back into
a house that's been rented for the last
5 years? Not a pretty sight, let me
assure you. Seems the last tenants turned
our master bedroom into a grow lab for
pot or something. Evidently, they'd
duct-taped plastic over all the windows,
including the skylight in the master
bath, installed a weatherstrip on the
bottom of the bedroom door, and so on.
There were also major chemical stains
that destroyed the bathroom countertop.
I could go on. In addition, of course,
most of the carpets needed replacing,
the wood floor in the kitchen was trashed,
new paint needed everywhere. *Sigh*...
So, we ripped out all the carpet on
the first floor and replaced it with
wood flooring, resurfacing the kitchen
at the same time, so the entire first
floor is wood. Cool. Looks great! :)
Then, we recarpeted the upstairs stairs,
hall, and bedrooms, and we repainted
all the walls. Lots of color/style choices
to make! Next is revamping the bathrooms--tile,
colors, at least one new countertop.
That's the house. More to come.
The Career
I've done a lot of things in my career,
from computer operator to President/CEO.
I'm currently creating what is going
to be a hugely impactful program at
a company called Medtronic, best known
for their pacemakers and other implantable
devices. Never fear, though: the next Big Thing lies right around the corner. Just gotta get this done first, is all :)
The Kids
Of course. There's always the kids.
Love 'em, but, damn, they are challenging.
Raiza is a senior at New Vista High
School, and is a licensed esthetician,
and Nik is finishing up his final year
at Southern Hills Mid School. Events
and drama and ... well... let's just
say many stories are there to be told
that shan't be here.
